Cruise Control

bicycles will get you
to where you are going today
by repetition.
over
and over
and over again
you will watch the brazen, dirt-ridden Winterfresh
rise
and fall
along the operating, tarred tire
rolling down a linear road
as if it were left there
on purpose
to mark something;
the beginning
or the end
of its rotation —
depending on how you look at it.
its presence
along the ride
is very mobile
but fixed
collecting waste
or souvenirs —
depending on how you look at it.

what if we are the gum
that have found ourselves here
caught along the path
perhaps the very places we choose not to deviate from
is not the only route
to take
yes, we are going Somewhere
but it isn’t Anywhere
recognize
that we can stretch
in infinite directions
if we just
simply,
graciously,

abandon

the

cycle
